I’ve been waiting for a book all my adult life that comes right out and says that our high regard for experts, even the ones with actual science degrees and the like, is fundamentally misplaced. Fitch makes the case, with great humor, that our trust in today’s experts, even when their data is weak and their conclusions wildly overblown, is just another manifestation of that more ancient guide faith, which I’d add is also unreliable. Sometimes everyone is wrong. . . . If enough people read his book, maybe even college graduates will find the courage possessed now only by uneducated bar-stool drunks to say it’s all bunk.

Great book and what a perfect time to read it

Great book and what a perfect time to read it, with all the nonsense and media hoopla. I get so tired of seeing shows on CNN and the other networks with screens full of supposed experts, most of whom show how little they know as they talk. It's unbelievable how awful the information streem in our media has become. This was a quick and great read. I am in the legal profession and know how tainted the "expert" process is. My only wish is that this book were longer. It's a huge topic. Thank you. CN

A must read for any conservative intellectual

I would give this book 10 stars out of 5 because 5 stars does not adequately state what a monumentally researched a
and brilliantly crafted book this is. The writing is crisp and authoritative. He juxtaposes brilliantly the so called experts
with degrees and people with no degrees who have made major contributions to our lives.
He also documents how universities have forced "group think" on students and tolerate no diversity of thought. Now I was classically
trained in debate technique when I was in school where you research the topic better than your opponent and know his side better than him and destroy his argument. Mr. Fitch tells us that debate no longer is tolerated in colleges. What the result of that is, is that he exposes the fact that after having graduated most of the students are no better skilled at writing and critical thinking skills than when they started. This is indeed a scary thought.
He also deals with global warming and has voiced what I have been voicing for over 15 years: "The science is most definitely not settled". In order for it to be settled, it has to be done through the "Scientific Method" the GOLD STANDARD in legitimate science.
This basically says that you devise a theory and then devise an experiment to prove that theory that can be replicated with the
same results by any scientist anywhere in the world with the same results. TO DATE THERE ARE ZERO EXPERIMENTS PROVING
CO2 CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING! This is because it is heavier than air at 152% heavier and does not rise into the atmosphere.
