Early Christian Tradition identified the writer of Revelation as the Apostle St. John, the Beloved Disciple, while he was in exile on the island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea. Written in symbolism, the book has always been surrounded by mystery and has fascinated mankind throughout the ages as to its meaning.

John opens the Apocalypse naming this the "Revelation of Jesus Christ," the prophecy revealed to him by the risen Christ, "who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood" (1:5).

The Book of Revelation is at once frightening, as it speaks of the rise of the antichrist and the end of the age, dramatic as it describes the final battle of good and evil, and, above all, optimistic, as it points to the triumph of Jesus Christ over evil and the dawn of a new creation.

Revelation 1:19 sets two time periods to the book - what is now and what will happen afterwards. The first time period includes the messages to the Seven Churches, Chapters 2 and 3, in which the word repent - μετανοέω or metanoew - occurs seven times. The second time period comprises the future, Chapters 4-21. Chapter 4 begins scenes of heavenly worship, which are interspersed throughout and provide continuity to this intriguing text but also offer contrast to the terrifying images during the tribulation on earth. The heavenly worship recalls the Mass or Divine Liturgy, the renewal of the New Covenant in Christ.

Hope is offered to those who are faithful to the Lord and his Commandments. Those who endure for Christ will be kept from the hour of trial that will fall on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth (Revelation 3:10). Angels are instructed not to harm the earth until the servants of God are sealed on their foreheads (7:3). Spirits from the abyss are to torment only those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads (9:4). "Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and hold fast to faith in Jesus" (14:12).

The Revelation to John often reflects imagery found in Hebrew Scripture, our Old Testament of the Bible, such as the Books of the Prophets Daniel and Ezekiel. For example, the Son of Man in Daniel 7:13 is referenced in Revelation 1:13 and 14:14. Jesus calls himself the Son of Man in all Four Gospels, fulfilling the destiny of the Messianic figure in the Book of Daniel.

The number seven resounds throughout Revelation and often serves as a key to important events. There are the seven Churches, and the seven seals, trumpets, and bowls. There are the seven angels who stand before the Lord (8:2). One also speaks of the seven Blessings or Beatitudes - μακáριος or makarios - of Revelation, as found in 1:3, 14:13, 16:15, 19:9, 20:6, 22:7, and 22:14. Following the proclamation of the Kingdom of God (11:15), seven spiritual figures are revealed: the Woman clothed with the sun (12:1); the dragon (12:3); the male child (12:5); Michael (12:7); the sea beast (13:1); the land beast (13:11); and the Lamb (14:1).

Angels appear over 70 times in Revelation and play an instrumental role in this prophetic text. Revelation describes the Book of Life and gives a warning about the Day of Judgement. The only ones to enter the New Jerusalem will be those written in the Book of Life of the Lamb (21:27).

I purchased this book because it was recommended for preaching. This book will teach you the "science of speech". And there is a lot of good advice for persuasive speaking. If you are getting this book to supplement your preaching, let me recommend to you (2) great books. First, Biblical Preaching by Haddon W. Robinson, this is the first book I purchased when I began preaching earlier last year. It has been very helpful. The second book I would recommend would be, Power in the Pulpit, by Jerry Vines and Jim Shaddix. Hope this helps.

This was a good overview of the actions of a psychopath. Sadly, I could relate to many of the ideas presented in this book. While my husband didn't use drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes many of his actions and words toward me were like those represented. It can be hard to recognize that you are married to a psychopath because they manipulate so many things and are pathological liars. You are always trying to figure out where the truth lies. If you can relate to any of the mistreatments presented in this book, seek help. This is a form of abuse. Not all abuse is physical. The characteristics of a psychopath listed at the end of the book was especially helpful. I would have liked a conclusion or epilogue reporting where the author is now or where she found help and what steps she took toward healing.

Sometimes the truth is scarier than fiction

The title describes the main male character so well. The book was hard to read at points due to some of my own similar experiences and I had to put it down and take a break from the psychopath's world for a while before I could go back and finish. The book had no difficult vocabulary, no spelling errors or grammatical errors although there were two places where a word was missing in a sentence, they were easily guessed in context. I liked that the author gave us insights of the main female character because there were a couple of times that I was wondering "What was that woman thinking?" There was a turning point in the book though where the end of the innocence was obvious. The extra listing at the end of the book covering the subtitle was a little bonus. This book told us a shock at the end so technically it isn't a cliffhanger but I had so many questions about the revealed ending, how did she find out, what happened with that, etc. So I'll be waiting on book 2 and hope the author fills in the details.

An easy read, packed with clues and information to help women understand what they are dealing with when they are dating a psychopath. Sadly, many people like Audrey have been charmingly deceived initially, then treated in all manner of abuse before they found their way out of the marriage. Dealing with a creep like this also affects their relationships with their children because the insanity never ends and they have been asked to play a game they can never win. Bravo for Audrey for getting away from this jerk and finding a better life! If you think you might be dating a narcissist or sociopath this book is a must read!

I can't even start to tell you how good this book is... It is so real and so funny, so easy and so endearing, its just not possible to pinpoint what makes it shine out among most other small town love stories.
Every page is filled with such care by this writer. No unnecessary waffle or pointless sub plots. Just wonderful story telling and love and more than a little laughter.
I would very happily live in a Lucy Score book.

This author is a great storyteller!

Love the Pierce brothers!! Funny, sexy and just down right great guys! This is the story of Beckett and Gianna and it has the usual twist and turns of a relationship but what separates this book and the series from other similar books is the author. Lucy Score writes one good story! Her dialogue is spot on funny when it needs to be and just keeps me laughing. Her characters are so real and makes me want to be part of this family. The love the brothers have for each other and their differences that show in each of their stories is so worth reading the books. Gianna's children, Aurora and Evan add so much to the story and I love how Aurora, who is 5 years old, calls him Bucket. One more book to read in this series and I will be sad to see it end. Hey Lucy....how about another book in this series!!!

I love Beckett (Bucket) and little Aurora - a very touching store of the reality of deadbeat dads and a man willing to love the whole package. The fact that many women and men out there take on children that they are not blood related is sincerely the best stories to read about especially when it is difficult to be a single parent. Second chances are meant for everyone. I'm starting to love this non-existing town and their meddling neighbors - can't wait to see what happens with Jax and Joey and the birth of the twins!
