As the grandson of the alien princess Indigo, Jim (aka Kid Sensation) has always known that, technically, he’s royalty. That said, he’d be the first to admit that he’s never lived any kind of regal lifestyle – no titles, no castles, no crown jewels… However, the arrival of a courier from his grandmother’s homeworld changes all of that in an instant.
By royal edict, Jim is summoned “home” to the distant planet Caeles in order to claim an alien inheritance. Unfortunately, this is no warm and cuddly family reunion. Caeles is a hotbed of political intrigue, and Jim’s arrival has widespread ramifications. Not only are several factions attempting to utilize his very existence as leverage to advance their own agendas, but Jim himself is required to submit to an archaic trial known as a prexetus. Moreover, while some are content with simply trying to use him, it quickly becomes apparent that at least one shadowy individual just wants Jim out of the way – quickly, completely, and permanently.
Light years from Earth, with little family and fewer friends, Jim faces the daunting task of finding an enemy whose ultimate purpose is unknown and whose methods are extreme. Complicating matters even further is the fact that Jim’s much-heralded super powers are glitching, making him incredibly vulnerable for perhaps the first time in his life.

A left turn at Albuquerque for Jim
By J S
Coronation is definitely a new story arc for Kid Sensation. It opens with Jim two weeks into an intergalactic journey to his grandmother's home planet. We don't get a chance to see his farewells with Electra, Mouse, or even his mother and grandfather.
I'm not sure how I feel about the shift from superhero adventures to more sci-fi alien civilization stuff. Prior to this book, I think I would have rather seen more of Alpha Prime's origins than the grandmother who's a non-player in the previous KS books.
This book felt off in a lot of ways. Landing on the space ship on the first page was disorienting. Then, somehow, it turns out Jim is still 16? (Is that true? I thought he was 16 when he first tried out for the minor leagues, and then two years of being a bounty hunter after that, plus adventures after he was reunited with Alpha Prime... I pegged him as at least 19 by now*. But I could be misremembering the first book.) The language felt off: Indigo trips over the idiom "cold fish", but then appears to have a firm grasp of English slang after that. I struggle with alien royalty stories because they all feel so ... whimsical? The alien race with super-long life spans. The impossible wealth. The immeasurable empire. The destined throne. Right on down the line. (Does Jim really want to end up so far from his family?)
I also don't know how I feel about the cliffhanger. I was left with less "I can't wait to read what's next!" and more "wait, how does *that* work?".
All told, this was not my favorite in the series. I may need to revisit in a few months.
*Admitting to my mistake: Jim was indeed 16 in the first book.

Timey Wimey Wibbly Wobbly Superbly Neat!
By HeroFan
Pow.
Love the book. You got super powers, you got aliens, you got robots, and best of all you got Time Travel.
I like how Mr Hardman is allowing his world, nay his universe grow and we're along for the ride. It's like how you're reading about Superman...and the Earth's big. But along comes a galactic threat and you realize that the Earth is just one planet among thousands. And is our hero a galactic champion or just a planetary one? Time will tell. ha.
But oh yeah. Time travel is kind of annoying. Thankfully like a good doc once said "its mostly timey wimey and wibbly wobbly" instead of a linear thing.
But if you hate time travel and weird fixed points in the space time continuums...perhaps this isn't the book for you.
Mr Hardman: You write. I will keep reading.
Excelsior!!

Really fun new journey
By Megs
I really, really, really enjoy these books. This one was a fascinating deviation from the story arc, and I felt like it added a whole new dimension to the overall story. The cliffhanger is going to drive me batty waiting for the next installment.
Jim is such a fun character. The author does a really great job of keeping him from being someone who's totally full of himself (usually by tempering an arrogant moment with an embarrassing gaffe of some sort), but at the same time you enjoy being in his head because he's self-assured and confident in his abilities. He walks a perfect line that allows the reader to feel like they can relate to him while also being a unique and exciting hero.
I caught on to the big time-travel-twist partway in to the final battle and FLEW through the pages because i was so excited to see how everything would go down in the end. Overall I wish it had been telegraphed just a liiiiiiittle bit less, but it still came together seamlessly.
The descriptions and explanations can get a tad wordy. I'm grateful that the use of the word "moreover" has been cut down significantly in this book (it got a little distracting in previous books once I noticed how often it was used). There were also times when I felt like Jim used words straight from a thesaurus (as in, I literally had no idea what they meant and had to look them up), although I can't really fault that since he's supposed to be some kind of genius.
Overall I highly recommend reading through the whole series. It's a fantastic adventure. Definitely looking forward to the next book!
