To most people, the idea of tantric sex sounds exciting, unique, and maybe more pleasurable. But only a small percentage of those people know what it actually is. In many cultures, sex is considered merely recreational. Tantric sex is an ancient Eastern spiritual practice thought to expand consciousness and join together the polarities of masculine and feminine energy into a whole. Tantric sex is the ancient key to sexual pleasure and psychic power, attained through a set of rituals. I found the book to be full of insight into couples and their relationships. It is a really great book.

Very rare techniques. Needs pictures and a bit of proofreading.

I got sucked into the hype surrounding this book. Boasting about new sex positions is nothing new but when it is coming from some tantric sex guru from India, I had to see what this was all about. After going through it and trying some myself (which I did succeed in some), I found that the guide would have been so much easier to understand if there were pictures. There are also a few minor errors leaving me to believe that the book was kinda rushed. Release a second edition with pictures and I will be the happiest man!

The book was a decent storyline I just hate that as these authors use such young characters. These people are barely out if high school & running cities & empires. I know it's fiction but is this all our youth is thinking about, being bosses of the streets. & why is it that it's always an educated girl that ends up with the roughest one in the bunch. Makes the ladies think this is all we're destined to attract.

recommended reading, but could be better

This book has some interesting ideas on how algos operating and ways to defeat the algos. But it was obvious many of the interviewees were holding back from telling the most useful of ideas, and the author wasn't asking the right questions.

I'd recommend reading it, but only for a dozen or so gold nuggets of info.

Traders of the New Error

Although I had never heard of the author or the publishing company, I decided to give this book a try because of the positive reviews and the hope that it would be similar to the book Technically Speaking. In Technically Speaking, very prominent thought leaders in technical analysis were interviewed. In Traders of the New Era, the author interviews people he's met in discussion forums that claim to have made substantial sums of money in very short time periods. The author started trading in 2012. The interviews themselves are from 2012 and 2013. In other words, the author started writing this book with less than a year of experience in the market. This lack of experience colors the questions he asks the traders interviewed. Overall, there are several issues with this book, both in the information that is conveyed and how the information is conveyed.

To begin with, several pages are literally copied and pasted from the internet. Not a sentence. Not a paragraph. Pages. As far as I can tell the author didn't write the original material (meaning that material that is copied and pasted from the internet), unless the author writes for, for example, the NASDAQ website. The author doesn't hide the fact that it's merely copied, so it's not plagiarism, but the pasted material is available for free. Why I am paying for the book? This is lazy writing.

The upside to the pasted material is that it's typically the only time where there is coherence and proper grammar etc. The book is riddled with typos. Additionally, when the author writes, he tends to make up his own vocabulary. For example, at one point, the author refers to the fulfillment of a limit order as "your order got done." The traders being interviewed are not much better. At one point the author asks a trader whether he uses a very simple statistical tool. The trader explains that he doesn't get into complicated quant stuff. Personally, when I think of quants, I don't think of basic statistics.

The interviews themselves are mostly time wasters, as a result of the authors questioning style and his focus on the trivial. Instead of zeroing in on what matters, the author is distracted by the promise of huge returns within a very short time period. For example, in the very first interview, the author is interviewing a trader that allegedly made $800k in a single day. Throughout the questioning, the trader talks about his methodology in very generic and overly broad terms. At one point he says he likes to detect market manipulation and then capitalize on it. This, of course, doesn't tell us what the manipulation is, how he detects it, or how he capitalizes on it. Instead of asking follow up questions to zero on in this specific, the author instead asks the trader about the difficulty in executing an $800k trade, then the author volunteers to the trader that he traded in the same stocks, then shifts to asking the trader about how it feels to make $800k in a single day. In other words, instead of asking the trader about anything material to making money, the author is blinded by the prospect of this trader allegedly making this much money so quickly. Once you realize that the trader has been trading since 1997, and a substantial chunk of his trading profit comes from this single trade in 2013, you begin to realize that, more than likely, the trader got lucky on a trade (if in fact it's true to begin with) as opposed to having any method to consistently make this sum of money (Considering also that the trader talks in broad generalizations, instead of specifics.).

The information conveyed between the interviews is either repetitive or contradictory. For example, mostly each trader mentions that it's important to cut your losses short. But, some traders recommend momentum trading. Others note that in the era of HFTs momentum trading no longer works. Some traders say avoid trading during a specific time of the day, others swear by it. You get the feeling that they don't really have it figured out. One consistent theme is that the information conveyed is typically in the form of a broad generalization.

This is what sets a book like Technically Speaking apart from Traders of the New Era: in Technically Speaking the experts interviewed gave specific details. You learned a substantial amount from reading (and re-reading). The same cannot be said for Traders of The New Era.

Exhilaratingly good!

Good Grief!!! I just finished the first book of the series and I've got chills. This story is spine tingling good. It's the kind of story where you hold your breath while reading because you're not sure what's going to happen next. The lead up to the next book has certainly got me hooked so that's where I'm heading ... on to book two of the series.

When fairy tales aren't just an allegory of life but are real life

This book was an interesting read with a lot of emotional scenes that tug at your heart strings. Elsa is a seven-year old that is mature beyond her years. Her wacky but devoted grandmother is Elsa's best and only friend. Granny (a former globe-trotting surgeon) fills the lonely girl's world with adventures and stories about the make believe Land-of-Almost-Awake. When Granny suddenly dies Elsa finds that her grandmother has left her a series of letters that must be delivered to the other tenants that live in the same apartment building as Elsa. As written, the letters are apologies from Granny, but they are really a way for Granny to build bonds of friendship between the lonely Elsa and the other tenants in the building. Through the letters Elsa also comes to realize that the make-believe characters in her grandmother’s stories are all based on real people and real events.

Overall I found the book a thoroughly enjoyable read. It was both funny and heartbreaking at the same time. But while I loved the middle and the end of the book, I found the beginning a little muddled. In the beginning I found it hard to relate to the wacky almost senile character of Granny, and the convoluted stories about the Land-of-Almost-Awake were confusing and difficult to follow. (I actually found myself skimming the sections about Miamas and the Land-of-Almost-Awake.) But after Granny's death all those random pieces started to come together in a very structured way. (At this point I had to go back and re-read the parts I skimmed). In the end I found that all of Granny's madcap actions had a reason, and all her stories had a point.

So a very enjoyable read, just pay attention to all those stories that Granny and Elsa tell in the beginning. They really are important.

On a side note there is one thing that still confuses me about the book: What was the deal with the Leaseholds? Why would the conversion from flats to leasehold make some tenants a profit and force other tenants out of the building?

Allegory Wrapped in Enigma

What a book! What a crazy, goofy, wonderful book this is! It is a little difficult to read, but, once you get the hang of it, the author has really captured how a scared and angry little girl named Elsa thinks and feels if a child that age had the insight and vocabulary to do so. Of course, Elsa is "different." She is brilliant in ways children seldom are, and she acts out in ways that are clearly understood by the adults in her world. This writer is brilliant in evoking an emotion in a person as the reader responds to the little girl's responses to situations and then figures out what is actually going on through his clever weaving of clues. Elsa's grandmother dies and charges Elsa with delivering a series of letters that explain things about Elsa's neighbors and about life itself through her apologies, and as Elsa begins to understand the world around her, so do you.That is because it is a book that draws you into the heart and soul of the characters, and leaves you scratching your head as to how you actually got there. I love this book, and really admire this writer's talent.
I read a lot. Some books are a nice story, some a nice adventure, and some will change your life. And here is a spoiler alert: this is a book that will change your life. Fredrik Backman is brilliant, and he dares to change lives through his writing. He makes it okay to be different, by finding the "different" in us all.

Great writing, incredible storytelling, wonderful plot

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrik Backman is very highly recommended fairytale. I love this book! Great writing, incredible storytelling, wonderful plot... My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry has it all! Elsa is 7, almost 8, years old and bullied for being different. She loves her grandmother who is 77 and a little bit crazy. Elsa's grandmother is her best friend and her champion. Her grandmother tells her stories from the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas "where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal." Elsa has memorized all the stories her grandmother told her.

"Granny isn’t particularly good at living in the real world. There are too many rules. She cheats when she plays Monopoly and drives Renault in the bus lane and steals those yellow carrier bags from IKEA and won’t stand behind the line when she’s at the conveyor belt at the airport. And when she goes to the bathroom she leaves the door open. But she does tell the very best fairy tales ever, and for that Elsa can forgive quite a few character defects."

When her grandmother dies, she leaves behind a series of letters that Elsa must deliver to people, telling them that her grandmother is sorry. Elsa only has to deliver one letter at a time before the next letter is revealed. While Elsa delivers the letters she is also dealing with her grief and anger. Anger over, in part, her grandmother's death, her mother's busyness, her parents' divorce, her new half-sibling due to arrive soon. What Elsa learns through the letters and her journey to deliver them is that the fairy tales her grandmother told her are real. The magic, heroism, tragedy, and danger in the fairytales are present and reflected in the various people Elsa meets when delivering the letters.

I simply loved this book and My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry will certainly be on the best books of the year list. For a story full of grief, it is also full of hope, forgiveness, and acceptance. You have to stick with the story until the fairytales Elsa's grandmother told her are shown to be connected to the real world and provide a poignant insight into the people surrounding Elsa.
